NetherRealm has added two returning characters to the Mortal Kombat 11 roster, while casually ending hopes of Scooby Doo’s Shaggy ever making an appearance.

In a Kombat Kast livestream on Tuesday, the developer revealed Kabal will be joining the upcoming sequel – a character who first appeared in Mortal Kombat 3 and was last seen in 2011’s reboot of the series.

A trailer for the character shows off his move set, equipped with hook swords, death stars and teleportation abilities.

His fatality combines his swift agility and swords into one, seen dragging Sub-Zero across the ground before splitting him completely in half. Lovely.

After the livestream, it was also announced character D’Vorah will return, who was originally introduced in previous entry Mortal Kombat X. Details on her moveset are less clear though, as she wasn’t given the same trailer treatment.

The stream also put an end to fan hopes of Scooby Doo’s Shaggy making an appearance, after countless memes and a petition started picking up steam in the community.

Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon even previously tweeted fan art of what Shaggy could possibly look like in the game – generating further frenzy.

Speaking on the livestream, community manager Tyler Lansdown gave his own fatality on the rumours, saying: ‘Shaggy will not be in the game, ever, sorry, dead meme!’

NetherRealm also announced their mobile game, which released alongside Mortal Kombat X in 2015, will become Mortal Kombat Mobile – with fighters from Mortal Kombat 11 being gradually released into the game through updates.

The developer also recently confirmed Kano will be coming back for Mortal Kombat 11, joining a line-up which, so far, includes Scorpion, Raiden, Sub-Zero, Geras, Baraka, Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Skarlet and Shao Kahn.

Mortal Kombat 11 will release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 23 April 2019.
