Maytag Top Control Dishwasher – Review

The Maytag MDB8969SDM dishwasher is a reserved workhouse that cleans even the toughest pots and pans without making a peep. It’s not the most modern-looking appliance, though.

The Maytag Top Control dishwasher is fairly nondescript. The outside of the machine has a bar at the top that you can use to hang dishtowels. Available in stainless steel, black, or white, the dishwasher would fit nicely with most kitchen decors. We reviewed the stainless steel model and are happy to report that it’s receptive to magnets, in case you like to stick something to the front to let your family know when the dishes are clean or dirty.

Hidden at the top of the dishwasher door are the controls and settings. The control panel is also fairly straightforward and sits flush right. You’ll find a Cycles button for choosing which type of load to run: PowerBlast, Auto, Normal, Quick, and Rinse. There’s a timer and five additional buttons: Hi Temp, Sanitize, Heated Dry, Cancel, and Start. The overall effect for the interface is a bit dated. That said, from the outside, the stainless steel design looks as sleek as many others.

Absolutely horrible experience with this dishwasher AND with Whirlpool
customer service. DO NOT BUY THIS DISHWASHER. This has leaked from Day
One, Whirlpool has sent a technician multiple times, replaced several
parts and it is still a piece of leaking crud. This is a 5 month ordeal.
Their own technician recommended replacing it as he couldn't fix it and
Whirlpool refuses. Instead they are replacing the dish rack. How will
that fix a leak on the BOTTOM? Whirlpool customer service also lied to
us (said the technician had not filed a report) and we caught them (we
phoned the technician), then they changed their story. BRUTAL
experience. The bored Maytag service guy from the commercials? Not so
    bored anymore. Be prepared.

I PURCHASED A MAYTAG DISHWASHER THAT HAS BEEN NOTHING MORE NOTHING LESS  THEN A BIG HEADACHE. AFTER INSTALATION THE MACHINE WOULDN’T EMPTY. WE CALLED MAYTAG AND WE WERE TOLD THAT PROBABLY THE MACHINE WAS NOT LEVELED AND THEY WOULD SEND A PROFESSIONAL TO DO THE JOB. MEANING INSTALING IT PROPERLY. HE CAME, AND DID WHATEVER HE IMAGENED WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER HE LEFT I PROCEDED TO WASH MY DISHES. THE MACHINE WOULDN’T EMPTY. I CALLED MY LONG TIME PLUMER, HE CAME OVER PULLED THE MACHINE OUT AND TOOK OFF TWO PIECES OF YELLOW PLASTIC THAT WERE ON THE BACK FEET OF THE MACHINE PROBABLY FOR PROTECTION DURING THE DELIVERY. THAT WAS THE REASON FOR THE MACHINE NOT TO EMPTY. NEXT PROBLEM: THE COMPARTMENT THAT HOUSES THE SOAP AND LIQUID FINISH. ON THE SOAP SIDE THE RUBBER SEAL WAS NOT IN PLACE. IT WAS COMING OUT IN A FORM OF A LOOP. THE SIDE OF THE LIQUID “JET DRY” WOULD EMPTY COMPLETELY AT ONCE AND BECAUSE THE MACHINE WAS NOT WASHING AND RINSING PROPERLY IT WOULD DRY ON THE DISHES LEAVING LIKE A GREEN GEL FILM. I WOULD HAVE TO WASH THE DISHES AGAIN BY HAND. I CALLED MAYTAG AND THEY,  “AS A SPECIAL FAVOR”, SENT ME A KIT TO FIX THE SOAP SIDE. I INSTALED IT MYSELF. PROBLEM  SOLVED. NOW, WHEN I START THE MACHINE, IT SHOWS THE TIME 3:99 WHEN IT REACHS 1:44 IT STOPS AND ALL THE BUTTONS AND EVEN THE FRONT LIGHT START BLINKING. MEANWHILE EVERY TIME SOMEONE COMES FOR SERVICE WE PAY. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A NEW MACHINE WITH NO PROBLEMS ATTACHED.

I have the same one in the video, I've had it probably two years now and LOVE it. Don't even hear it running compared to my old whirlpool. The dishes are always super clean. I will buy again. I messed up when I bought the plastic whirlpool it was always stopping up in the grinder, the dishes were needing to be washed again because they didn't come clean. Maytag is the way to go compared to the whirlpool I used to own. Hope this helps someone. Did I say Quiet? Yes very quiet!!!
